The bulk of our Grandfather Clock repairs are however, in the Metro Atalanta area. Our service area at this point is from Chattanooga, Tennessee down to Macon Georgia. That's allot of clocks in the past 10+ years. We have 2 Grandfather Clock Technicians that are on the road Monday - Friday repairing 2-3 Grandfather clocks per day, EACH. We service more Grandfather clocks than any other clock company in the state of Georgia. After setting the hands to 12, we will remove the hands as well as the second hand.Ĭlock Repair Service has been in business for over 10 years now. There is a reason behind this step and I will link it to our blog on why we do this. We always start by setting the clock 's hands to 12 o"o'clock. Sometimes, removing a movement from a grandfather clock case is the biggest challenge of the job.

I always repeat myself on allot of these blogs because when we service a Grandfather clock, we always will remove the movement to clean and service the grandfather clock's movement. I wanted to show what we did to service this Ridgeway Grandfather clock as well as how we repaired the weight that had come apart. When we service a Grandfather clock, we notice that allot of our customers Grandfather clock weight hooks are so loose, we are surprised that they are still hanging on. Part of servicing a grandfather clock includes tightening the hooks and the bottom nut to each weight of the Grandfather clock. Fortunately for the customer, the weight was in the lowest position so it did not have far to fall, limiting the damage to the weight shells or caps, or to the bottom of the Grandfather clock. In this case the left weight had come apart and fell in pieces down to the bottom of the clock. The customer was needing the grandfather clock serviced and also "one of the weights had fallen off".

Perhaps my only grandfather clock for now.Went out to day to for a repair to a Ridgeway Grandfather clock. I will simply swap the movement out with an identical one since Hermle continues to make this movement to this day. When it fails it is more cost effective to replace the movement rather than bring someone in to repair it. The clock runs very well and to within a minute a week. Nonetheless, it is impossible to verify since very little information about the original company exists to this day. I have also seen the clock referred to as the Hamilton Country model. The clock is very similar to the Sussex model as shown in this advertising brochure. In this case the ubiquitous 451-033, with 114 cm pendulum and 60 bps. In the 1990s the German clock company Hermle was the principle supplier. Later ones did this has a Hermle movement. The seller advertised that it had a quality Keininger movement. Moon phase with constellationĪnd it came with the original cabinet key. Howard Miller continues to offer the Ridgeway line. The Pulaski company struggled financially in later years and was eventually bought out by the Howard Miller Clock Company in 2004. It was made by the Pulsaski Furniture Company. It stands 83 inches tall, has a scalloped bonnet crown, functional blue moon dial with constellation, 5-rod Westminster chime with shut-off, stately columns with brass base and caps, raised Arabic numerals, oak solids and veneers, brass lyre pendulum with 10 5/8 polished bob and access panels on each side. Clock face showing moon dial and raised Arabic numerals The smaller homes that many folks prefer today simply means there there is no room for a clock this size. Unfortunately, this type of clock takes a real hit on the used market. The brass was bright and shiny and the only indication of its age (1996) is slight tarnishing of the column capitals. When I called the seller and asked what he meant by “excellent” he said, “You have to see it to believe it”. The ad said that the clock was in excellent condition. In 2012 I was perusing a local for-sale site and came upon this particular Ridgeway grandfather clock. Should every clock collector have a Grandfather (tall case or long case) clock? No, but it was something I had always wanted.
